The VT Service Manager is used to stop and start the four file service functions of Visual Traffic. Your VT server automatically starts these programs every time it is turned on or rebooted. You can stop or start the services using this dialog. In normal VT operation, all four services are started and running. You can reach this dialog on the server by Start\Programs\Wicks Broadcast Solutions\Visual Traffic\VT Service Manager. The services are:

When VT is running, all four services normally display a depressed Start button. Select any service by highlighting it in the list box. If you want to stop all VT operation, you should stop the services in the reverse order they are listed. Stop the Scheduler, System Processor, WBS Server and Adaptive Server Anywhere in that order. Select each service in turn and click Stop and wait until the dialog displays stopped. You should call up this dialog and Stop the Service Manager prior to performing a backup of the database unless you are copying the database and making a backup of the copy.

If you do need to stop VT, you might want to confirm that no one is using the program. You can use the Adaptive Server Anywhere Remote Monitor to see if anyone is still on the system. You can also disconnect a user connection if necessary. This might be necessary, for example, if someone forgot to turn off his or her workstation and left it in a locked office.

To re-start VT, Start all four services in the order Adaptive Server Anywhere, WBS Server, System Processor and Scheduler.

You should leave all other Service Manager controls as they are unless you are working with a Visual Traffic support representative. You will normally never Remove a service, create a New service, or Edit a service. Visual Traffic would cease to function if you removed any of these services. The Edit configuration dialogs for each service should never be changed unless you are working with a Visual Traffic support representative.

You can Close the VT Service Manager when you are through Stopping or Starting services. The Service Manager does not need to be left open.
